One of the most iconic helmets of the Cold War was a design originally from the Second World War. It is said that Adolf Hitler personally vetoed the use of this helmet for the Wehrmacht.

To distance the NVA from a Wehrmacht look, the East Germans first used Soviet SSH-40 and Czech M-53 helmets, but in 1956 the M56 was officially adopted. This helmet, with slight modifications throughout the years, would be the main helmet for the NVA until the fall of East Germany.

These helmets were not only used by East Germany but also by many other countries! North Vietnam received plenty, mainly used by their anti-aircraft gunners. The Angolan FAPLA (people's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola) also used these helmets. Even after the fall of East Germany, these helmets were still being used by groups in the Yugoslavian Wars such as Bosnia and Croatia.

The helmets for sale are East German used, (at least I believe so because they were found in a warehouse in Germany).

TheM56/66 as well as M56/76 helmets are available. (The M56/66 will have rivets on the exterior, while the M56/76 will not have rivets on the exterior).

You can also decide on the conditions. The conditions available are;

Unissued (These helmets will only have storage wear and the liners and chinstraps are unused).

Grade 1 (These helmets will show signs of wear, have scratches, stains, and/or names, but otherwise are still in great shape and can be worn.

Grade 2 (These helmets may show signs of more wear, missing chinstrap, or missing padding between the liners, and/or surface rust.

Grade 3 (these helmets are missing the padding + either a broken liner, missing chinstrap, surface rust, and/or broken chinstrap).

Nonetheless, these are all great helmets and can be restored/fixed easily if desired.

I do not know if I will ever get such a large batch of these helmets again, so do not miss out on them!
